Purpose and Objectives
This course is designed to introduce prospective teachers and evaluators to basic concepts
in educational measurement, utilizing measurement in instruction, construction of teacher-made
tests and other classroom assessments, such as portfolio and performance assessment. It also
provides the student with a framework for interpreting test scores. By the end of the course
prospective teachers will be able to:
describe the strengths and limitations of different item formats,
choose the appropriate assessment methods in their prospective fields,
develop multiple-choice, matching, true/false, essay items to measure instructional
objectives,
evelop performance assessment and alternative assessment instruments for classroom use,
interpret basic statistics used to establish properties of test scores, e.g. measures of central
tendency and measures of variability, interpret a correlation coefficient as it is used to
evaluate reliability and validity,
interpret standard scores, e.g. percentile ranks, z-scores, and linear transformations to
normal curve equivalents, T scores, stanines, etc…,
communicate the meaning of standardized test scores to students, parents, and educational
personnel,
use assessment information in an ethical and legal manner.

Ders Başarı Notu: In order for a student to be considered as successful, student must obtain at least 60/100 in the final exam and t 40% of the midterm exam and 60% of the final exam score should add up to at least 60.
